Pilot Whales Rescued After Stranding In Scotland

Ten long-finned pilot whales have been saved after their pod stranded on the island of South Uist in the Hebrides over the weekend. Sadly, seven other whales died.

Local people from the island helped to take part in the rescue. It took over three days for them to search the local beaches and coves for any stranded whales, some of which suffered injuries from rocks.

Thankfully, the rescued pod was last seen swimming out at sea between Uist and Skye.Pilot whales are usually found in deep offshore waters but sadly are the most likely species to strand together in a pod like this.
