Endangered North Atlantic Right Whales Shrink In Numbers

North Atlantic right whales have declined in numbers from 482 whales in 2010 to only 458 in 2015 according to a new model used to estimate their numbers. This is a devastating finding for these endangered whales.

This year has been a particularly bad year for the whales as there have been 14 known deaths during 2017so far. Collisions with boats and entanglement in fishing gear are major threats to these slow-moving whales which live off the east coast of the US and Canada.
