New Whale Exhibition Opening In London

There is a new summer family exhibition exploring the extraordinary lives of whales opening in London’s Natural History Museum on 14 July 2017. You can enter a free prize draw to win a free family ticket.

The exhibition includes huge complete whale skeletons, flippers, skulls and jawbones that scientists study to reveal feeding habits, breathing techniques and sense of hearing and sight. You can explore the remarkable bodies of the largest creatures to have lived on earth, and how they are much more similar to us than you may think. You will learn about their extraordinary adaptations to their underwater environments.

More than 100 specimens from the Museum's collection will be on display together for the first time, from parts of a colossal blue whale to a small harbour porpoise.

You will be able to see how whales evolved to become sociable, aquatic mammals, some of which can communicate over vast distances. Whale experts at the Natural History Museum say ‘We want people to realise that as well as being mammals like us, they also have complex culture like us.’

The exhibition is open from 14 July 2017 until February 2018.
