Whale Knocks Surfer Unconscious

A surfer has been knocked unconscious by a 40ft-long southern right whale in shallow water off Australias Bondi beach.

The whale, which had surfaced amongst a group of about 15 swimmers and surfers, was with her calf. She flicked Bishan Rajapakse, a 38-year-old doctor, off his board with her tail perhaps because he was too close to her and her baby.

Hundreds of spectators enjoying the winter sunshine had been watching the mother whale. She then dived beneath the group of men sitting on their boards and flicked her tail, sending the surfers and their surfboards flying and knocking out Mr Rajapakse.
