Amazing Blue Whale Rescue

blue whaleA young blue whale who got himself stranded in a swamp off India has been successfully rescued by a team of 100 people.

The 8 metre long whale was found by a local fisherman who then went to get help.

Using pillows, cushions and ropes, a team of 100 or so people, including 40 local fishermen and led by a wildlife warden, managed to gently pull the whale about 1 km back into the sea. They watched him swim safely out into deeper water before returning to shore.

What a wonderful feat. It just shows what can be done when a community gets together!

It's not too late to do your bit to help whales and dolphins during Save the Whale Week (2-8 July 2012).
