The evidence
WDCS’s report clearly demonstrates that the dolphinaria licensed to operate in these countries are failing to meet the requirements of the EU Zoos Directive, and that instead they are primarily commercial enterprises paying little heed to their conservation and educational responsibilities.
Our report was compiled using data from 18 dolphinaria collected as part of a European-wide zoo investigation called the EU Zoo Enquiry 2011 as well as a review of literature and web-based information.
When held up against the legal requirements of the EU Zoos Directive and other relevant EU legislation, the results were damning.
