Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is one of twelve EU Member States without dolphins in captivity and there are no records of any previous dolphinaria in the Czech Republic either. WDCS hopes the Czech Republic will continue to stay free of captivity.  The Czech Republic became a Member State of the EU in 2004 and was formally known as Czechoslovakia when conjoined with Slovakia, until it became an independent country in 1993.

It is one of 89 countries that are Parties to the IWC (International Whaling Commission) after adhering on the 26th January 2005.

Any dolphinarium in the Czech Republic would be covered and included in the national zoo law, which relates to the keeping of wild animals in captivity.
