International Field Projects - Atlantic Ocean

Our conservation and research projects focus on not only key species,but also threatened populations - geographically, or genetically distinct groups of animals, which if driven to extinction could not be replaced.

North East Atlantic

South West England - Various species: Marijke de Boer investigates the cetacean fauna off the south west coast of England.

North and Central West Atlantic

Bay of Fundy, Canada - Harbour porpoises: The HPRP was developed by the Grand Manan Whale and Seabird Research Station in 1991 to assist local fishermen in the Bay of Fundy, Canada with the safe release of harbour porpoises from their herring weirs.

Central and South East Atlantic

Angola, West Africa - Atlantic humpback dolphin: Caroline Weir looks at Atlantic humpback dolphins off Namibe Province,Angola, their habitat use, behaviour and implications for conservation.

Ghana, West Africa - Various species: Koen Van Waerebeek is working with local researchers to monitor the exploitation of cetaceans in the coastal waters of Ghana.
