Taiji Hunts Have Destroyed The Lives Of Over 800 Dolphins So Far
An estimated 670 dolphins have been killed in the Taiji Cove since the hunting season began in September. A further 150 dolphins have been taken into captivity.
The drive hunts at the infamous Japanese cove have not shown any sign of stopping, despite international pressure and the Oscar winning documentary The Cove exposing the brutality of what occurs in the waters off Taiji.
Activists observing the captures and killings have shown the link between the dolphin deaths and the captivity industry clearer than ever before. Trainers have been seen selecting animals, while that dolphin’s family is being slaughtered all around them. It is strongly believed that it is the enormous sums of money that aquaria are willing to pay for dolphins that makes the dolphin killings profitable.
Footage from recent hunts has shown the brutal new way that the fishermen are killing the dolphins, despite them claiming that this is a humane method. Spikes are driven into the dolphins spines and the animals can be seen thrashing while they slowly die.
The drive hunt season will end in April. To find out about our drive hunt campaign and how you can help, please click here.
