In the same week that cables released by Wikileaks indicated that the US had actually been engaged in discussions that would have allowed commercial whaling, Greenpeace has published the results of a new public opinion poll that clearly show that Americans are opposed to commercial whaling. 

The survey, conducted for Greenpeace by  ORC Caravan, shows that American support for whale protection cuts across usual geopolitical lines; 83% of  the 1000 respondents want President Obama to honor his campaign promise to strengthen the International Whaling Commission (IWC) ban on commercial whaling.
