Whaling Debate Rocks New Zealand

New Zealand has been debating it's government's stance on the proposed deal to allow the resumption of commercial whaling.

3NEWS reports that the main political parties are split on the best way forward.

New Zealand, a traditionally ardent opponent against whaling, has been looking at how to get Japan out of southern hemisphere whaling.

Others are concerned that only focusing on this one type of whaling may mean that other commercial whaling is sanctioned as part of the deal

WDCS has serious concerns about the deal and supports only proposals that mean that commercial whaling, and so-called  'scientific' whaling, come to end once and for all.
