Japan Welcomes IWC Proposal As Resumption Of Full-fledged Commercial Whaling
The
Mainichi Daily News is reporting that the Japanese Government is welcoming the IWC compromise deal as a gateway to resumption of
full-fledged commercial whaling. The proposals, or
deal includes a 10 year period of IWC controlled catches, but Japan and others are seeing this as a temporary stop whilst it gets its industry up and running with opportunities to develop more whaling after that. Fisheries Agency personnel said that after the 10 years it's a completely clean sheet of paper.
