Whalers Sink Protest Boat In The Southern Ocean

Media is reporting that the high-tech stealth boat Ady Gil has been cut in half and sunk by a Japanese security vessel in Antarctic waters today. While the appears to be Ady Gil is sinking, its six-man crew have apparently been rescued and are uninjured.

Reports say that earlier today, the Japanese fleet was contacted for the first time by the Ady Gil and Sea Shepherds third vessel, the Bob Barker.

Sea Shepherd have told media that the Ady Gil was at a standstill in Australian waters off  Commonwealth Bay when the Japanese whaling ship Shonan Maru 2 deliberately rammed into it.

A spokesman for Japans Fisheries Agency, which oversees the country's whaling program, has told media that the incident is being  investigated

The Australian Federal Government has repeated its call for restraint by all parties in the Southern Ocean.
