Japanese Report Reveals 75 Per Cent Of Its Whale Meat Is Unsold

A report from the Japanese-based Dolphin and Whale Action Network has revealed just how uninterested the Japanese public is in eating whale meat caught by the country’s whaling fleets. A massive three-quarters of the meat from whales caught in the north-west Pacific last summer remains unsold, according to the report.

On the eve of the annual International Whaling Commission (the body that regulates whaling) meeting in Panama in July (where Japan will once again be asking for large numbers of whales to be killed for its so-called ‘scientific research’), Junko Sakuma, a freelance journalist, stated that of the 1,211-tonne catch rom Japan's controversial "scientific" whaling programme, 908 tonnes had not been sold and remained in storage, and that comes despite 13 public auctions being held since last October.
