WDCS Supporter Completes Hawaii Leg In Swim Challenge

Adam Walker, from Nottingham in the UK, has successfully completed his swim across the Molokai channel in Hawaii (see video below), the next part of his Oceans 7 challenge, which involves swimming seven hardest oceans in the world.

He completed the 26 miles from Molokai to Oahu (the longest of all the swims) to raise more funds for WDCS after previously swimming the English Channel and becoming the first British man to swim the Gibraltar Straits and back in one go.

“It didnt go quite as planned” says Adam! “I was stung a couple of times in the face after about an hour into the swim but this was bearable but at eight hours in it all went wrong, the current went against us and started pushing me back. This went on for 4 hours and I went nowhere. The current then pushed across me so I had to swim another 2 hours to hit further down the coast. After 15 hours I was stung by a Portuguese man of war which was agony!! I was literally shouting in the water with the pain and having to pull its tentacle off my stomach. I then started to continuously vomit and my lower spine went numb due to the poison. I thought the swim was over at this point and I swam for 30 mins hunched over in pain. But the current then changed a couple more times before I landed in 17 hours 5 mins, covering over 10 miles more than anticipated.

Adam was accompanied by just a fishing boat and kayaker to guide him across the channel and protect him from potential shark attacks. He also suffered several stings from jellyfish.
