Japanese Whalers Set Off For North Pacific

Japanese whaling vessels have set off from Shimonoseki to join one vessel already at sea in the north-west Pacific where, together, they plan to slaughter up to 260 whales.

Despite the international ban on commercial whaling, Japan still carries out the hunts by exploiting a legal loophole which allows it to kill whales for so-called ‘scientific research’.

WDCS will once again fight against these hunts at the forthcoming International Whaling Commission (the body that regulates whaling) meeting in Panama, which begins in a few weeks’ time.
