Rare Whale Filmed For First Time

Australian scientists have captured what they believe to be the first video of an extremely rare whale. The first film footage of the Shepherd's beaked whale, which is thought have been seen only a few times since being discovered in 1937,  has been taken recently by Australian scientists working in the Eastern Bass Strait, off the coast of Victoria and Tasmania.  A pod of the whales was spotted in January amongst a group of dolphins and pilot whales. One of the largest of the beaked whales, the Shepherd's beaked whale has a distinctive melon-shaped forehead and a prominent beak, and is rarely seen because they live along way out to sea.
